WILLIAMS COUNTY, ND ( KXNET ) — A truck accident taking place in Williams County on Saturday, July 6 has resulted in a massive produced water spill.

According to a press release from the Department of Environmental Quality, the accident (which took place six miles southwest of Tioga) resulted in a surge of hydraulic fracturing flow-back water — a fluid that returns to the surface through wellbores after fracturing operations.

Patriot Oilfield Services, the company that initially reported the spill, estimates that roughly 150 barrels of (6,300 gallons) were released in the crash.

Personnel from the DEQ are currently on-site working with the responsible party on cleanup procedures and will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation of the spill.
