Dayton cancels firework festival for another year, holds firework show only
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- Last year's show was cancelled after shots were fired near the Dayton Children's Parade back in November of 2022. The city of Dayton last year gave the reason of safety concerns and shortage in officers, which is the same reason this year. They're only bringing back the fireworks.
Governor DeWine appoints Kendell to Miami County Municipal Court
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Tuesday announced the appointment of Anthony Kendell to the Miami County Municipal Court. Kendell, of Piqua, will assume office on July 22, 2024, and will be taking the seat formerly held by Judge Gary Nasal, who retired. He will serve the remainder of the unfinished term and will need to run for election in November 2025 to retain the seat.
Ohio Ice Cream Trail features 54 stops including several in Dayton region
It’s National Ice Cream Month and TourismOhio has relaunched its Ice Cream Trail highlighting more than 50 stops throughout the state. “The Ohio Ice Cream Trail is a fun and unique way to explore the state and support our communities,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development which oversees the TourismOhio office. “The Trail truly shows that we’re the heart of it all, bringing together our state’s rich agricultural heritage, culinary culture, manufacturing innovation, and support for small businesses.”

There are several local cities and townships hosting parades and festivals this week in honor of Independence Day. Here are some of those events:. Oxford Parks & Recreation Freedom Festival: Salute to Freedom Parade at 6:30 p.m. July 2 starting on the corner of College Avenue and High Street in Oxford and continuing down High Street to Poplar Street. Enjoy Oxford hosts a concert at Uptown Park featuring the Bluewater Kings Bang at 7 p.m. On July 3, events at Oxford Community Park start at 5 p.m. with booths, music, food, gladiator jousts, inflatables, games, face painting and more. New fingerprinting devices coming to local courts

Piqua Public Library patrons can check out more than just books or movies. The library now has a telescope available at the circulation desk. People can check out the telescope for up to seven days. As long as it is available, it can be checked out by any adult with a valid ID and a library card.
Registration open for Run for the Mums 5K
TIPP CITY — Registration for the Annual TMCS Run for the Mums 5K is now open. The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Tipp City Park located at 418 N. Third St. Preregistration runs until Sept. 11 and costs $25 (includes t-shirt) or $20 with no shirt. Online registration will remain open from Sept. 12 to 18, costs $25, and does not include a shirt. For those who prefer to register on the day of the race, race day registration is available from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. at the Tipp City Park Roundhouse and costs $25. Race shirts will be available for $10 on the morning of the event, but quantities are limited.
