Trinity Lutheran Church recognizes its 150th anniversary with an outdoor worship service and picnic on Sunday.

The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at 4560 Glendale Ave., Toledo. The Rev. Kevin Wilson, president of the Ohio District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, will be the guest preacher. There will also be inflatables, a pie baking contest, and a classic car display. All are welcome to attend.

Trinity will also hold an anniversary banquet on Nov. 3 with former pastor Charlie Brandt as the guest preacher.

The German-speaking church formed in 1874 by members of St. John’s Luther Church in Adrian who moved to Toledo. The July 19 signing of its constitution officially established the congregation, and one signer, Heinrich Ketel, is related to the church’s current president, Al Pilz. Originally located at the northeast corner of Vance and Ewing streets, the congregation relocated to its current location in 1958.

Trinity has also operated a Lutheran school since 1874, starting with 16 students and growing to 98 within a few months of opening.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at the local LDS chapel, located at 1545 Eastgate Rd., Toledo. Go to bit.ly/4bLMjxn for more information.

Bishop Hee-Soo Jung has been assigned to the Ohio Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church. Effective Sept. 1, both the West and East Ohio conferences of the UMC will be led by the same bishop.

Retiring Bishop Gregory Palmer of the West Ohio Conference gave his final sermon Saturday at the closing service of the North Central Jurisdictional Conference.

Bishop Jung will come to Ohio after serving as resident bishop for the Wisconsin Annual Conference.
