To the editor: Bring guns, violence under control

None of us wanted to see an attempt to assassinate the former president.

The history of this country has seen attempts and casualties in the past.

But saying that a presidential candidate is a threat to democracy is not violent rhetoric, it is just fact.

Saying that some people need to be killed, as said the Republican candidate for governor in North Carolina, encourages violence.

Showing President Biden bound and gagged in the back of a pickup truck is violent.

And telling fans at rallies to beat up protesters is violent.

Calling members of the media evil and turning crowds against them encourages violence. The promotion of more guns in our society encourages violence.

Forty thousand people or more are killed each year by gun violence, and yet politicians both local and national do nothing to address this issue.

Let us unite to make gun regulations tougher. Let’s unite to bring back civility in words and deeds. Let’s have morality in political candidates. Let’s pass laws that make it easier to vote. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are rights that don’t come about with violence.

    New party name for Republicans

The name for the Republican Party should be changed to the Hypocrisy Party.

The large number of Trump endorsers that have suffered the mockery, insults, ridicule, and total disrespect coming from him is bewildering.

Starting with our own J.D. Vance and then Nikki and good old Ted and many more politicians that have irritated the King Want-To-Be.

The problem we face now with Trump is largely because of many prominent mainstream Republican representatives and senators failing to speak up during the catastrophic years of Trump’s administration and the aftermath.

The number of prominent Republican elected officials that chose to resign or to not run for re-election has put the GOP in the hands of a group of frightening hacks which pose a real threat to our ability to govern our country that has proven successful for 250 years.

    Block’s BCSN idea changed lives

The Blade lately has been doing a Mount Rushmore Series.

It is very well done. I would offer that there are institutions in Toledo that belong on our Mount Rushmore.

But one caveat is, I have five instead of four institutions that should be on Toledo’s Mount Rushmore. They are as follows: the Toledo Museum of Art, the Zoo, Mud Hens and Walleye, Metroparks, and BCSN.

Mr. Allan Block, the former CEO and chairman of Block Communications Inc., deserves so much credit for his unwavering commitment to the Toledo Community through his clear eyed-vision of BCSN.

Mr. Block understood what this very esoteric organization would mean to our community.

His idea has changed our city. It is truly his lasting imprint on the city of Toledo.

What he has done for student athletes, coaches, teachers, parents, and grandparents is so very impactful. He has helped many youngsters receive scholarship offers directly off of BCSN Games. Allan then took it a step further by creating BCAN which allows students in plays, band and any extra-curricular activity get their just recognition.

There is nothing like BCSN in the country. It is special to Toledo and northwest Ohio. Thank you, Allan, for this legacy that has improved the quality of life in our Community. BCSN gives back every day to our kids, teachers, coaches, and parents.

    Candidate’s lies can’t be tolerated

Donald Trump did not win the debate. It was proven he told over 50 lies. A true winner does not have to lie. During his four years in the White House CNN counted his lies. He lied over 30,000 times.

Trump does not know how to tell the truth.

Our country, and our democracy can’t afford four more years of Donald Trump’s lies and crimes.
