BEDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) An Ohio man has been arrested for firing shots in Monroe County’s Bedford Township.

In a news release, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said their central dispatch received a call on Saturday (7/27) around 11:11 p.m. about a man walking in the area. The caller reported seeing the suspect firing a handgun in a commercial area at Secor Road (8000 block) near Summerfield.

Deputies arrived on scene and started searching for the suspect, who was last seen walking south on Summerfield; the sheriff’s office said.

They said they “quickly found” the suspect, 25 of Toledo, sitting alone by the roadway with a handgun. He admitted to firing into the ground, according to the sheriff’s office.

“It is believed he had not previously threatened or pointed the weapon at anyone,” the statement read.

The suspect was lodged at the Monroe County Jail for carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm, and reckless discharge. His name is being withheld pending arraignment.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call (734) 240-7712.
