Downtown Plaza in Champaign to be renovated
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The Champaign City Council voted on July 2 to approve moving forward with construction on the Neil Street Plaza in downtown. David Happ, a civil engineer for the City of Champaign, said that the city has been discussing the Downtown Plaza Project since it was originally proposed in 2006. The Downtown Plaza Project was created in order to develop the plaza into a more visitor-friendly location. "I think it's a great space now, but essentially it's just a parking lot. This will turn into something that people can really use," said Happ.

Springfield Avenue bridge replacement to start July 8, delays expected
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WICS) — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Springfield Avenue (Illinois 10) is set to close to traffic beginning July 8, if weather permits. The road closure is necessary to replace a bridge carrying Springfield Avenue over Copper Slough with a culvert, just east of Duncan Road.
