Operation Lone Star: A Successful Border Solution

Despite the backlash, Operation Lone Star is working, and the numbers show it. Since 2021, Governor Greg Abbott launch Operation Lone Star to help prevent illegal immigrants from entering Texas. For a while things were hectic, but numbers now show a big effect this is having.

Yesterday, Governor Abbott posted on X:

“Operation Lone Star is working. 

Look at the graph in this story.

Illegal crossings are going down in TX while at the same time they are skyrocketing in CA & AZ.

It's b/c of the border wall,  razor wire barriers, the National Guard & arrests by DPS.”

Three years ago, Governor Abbott said according to a press release when Operation Lone Star began:

“The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden Administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration.” 

“Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans. We will surge the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to confront this crisis.”

In addition, last year Governor Abbott called for support from other governors according to this press release. The governors have lent their personnel and equipment along the border. 

Since 2021, Texas had the most number of migrants entering the country. But there’s been a change. Over the past few months, California and Arizona have seen more migrants enter due to the higher security that Governor Abbott implemented according to CBS News.

Texas has seen a 28% decrease, California has a 35% increase, and Arizona has a 52% increase.
