In his third term in office, Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to have a strong stance in office. This is despite the numerous legal battles he has faced with the federal government and state officials.

During the Biden administration, Governor Abbott made a stronger effort to curb the illegal immigrants crossing the open border. With his powers in office, Abbott has prevented thousands of illegal immigrants from entering Texas and the country.

According to a press release, Governor Abbott using the Texas Public Safety and National Guard made 508,900 apprehensions of illegal immigrants. In addition, arrested 41,900 criminals and seized 475 million doses of fentanyl.

According to the CDC, there were about 112,000 deaths related to fentanyl in 2023 as stated by NPR.

Harris County had 304 deaths in Texas which was the highest number of fentanyl deaths according to the Houston Chronicle.

Despite the political issues Abbott has with the federal government, the public supports his border security efforts according to a Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation according to ABC 8 WFAA.

The poll showed 58% of voters support making illegal immigration a state crime. Then 40% opposed this.

Last year, Governor Abbott signed Senate Bill 4 making illegal immigration a state crime according to The Texas Tribune.

Governor Abbott recently wrote on X:

“Texas National Guard soldiers—with help from partner states—continue to reinforce the razor wire barriers along the southern border.”
“Working together with my fellow Governors, Texas is holding the line.”

What do you think of Governor Abbott’s job on the border crisis?
