Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent out a warning to migrants entering the State. He said alligators were in the Rio Grande.

It’s common to think of Florida and alligators but Texas does have some gators in the eastern part of the State. Most alligators are found in the Houston, Corpus Christi, and Brownsville areas.

Brownsville is an area where migrants cross to enter Texas. Some migrants have used the Rio Grande River as a crossing point.

Governor Abbott posted on X that there were alligators in the Rio Grande and shared a video clip of an alligator from a local resident.

“Alligators are in the Rio Grande.
FYI there are warning signs posted in some sectors.
    Cross at your own risk.”

Some believe U.S. Customs and Border Protection placed the gators there to keep migrants away. Alligator sightings have been known for several years.

About six years ago, KGNS shared video clips of alligators that Border Patrol took. The alligators were swimming in the Rio Grande River.

So the tweet by Governor Abbott is nothing new. Alligators have lived in Texas.

The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife wrote alligators were once considered endangered over 30 years ago. Today, they are no longer an endangered species. They are still protected by law.

Texas alligators can grow up to 6 to 14 feet.

Alligators normally don’t attack humans since they normally feed on fish, birds, turtles but they have attacked humans.

Do you think Governor Abbott’s message will deter migrants from using the Rio Grande?
