Florida Governor Ron DeSantis can't catch a break from backlash.

Black Republicans and other GOP representatives are now coming after Ron DeSantis for setting new guidelines on how Black history is taught in Florida classrooms.

Middle-schoolers are instructed to learn how "slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their benefit," as DeSantis has frequently said.

As you can imagine, many are having a problem with this representation of history, including Republicans.

    Not a career choice

Former Republican congressman from Texas, Will Hurd, fires back at DeSantis saying, "slavery is not a jobs program."

Hurd expressed surprise at DeSantis' continued support for the standards and criticized him for acting " mean and hatefully. "

When contacted for a reaction, DeSantis's campaign sent a tweet that the governor had made in which he claimed to be "defending Florida against false accusations and lies."

Numerous Black Republicans have criticized the governor for supporting the contentious curriculum the state Board of Education adopted.

DeSantis deflects criticism directed at Florida schools as he tries to revive his campaign after losing ground to Donald Trump in public opinion polls for the GOP presidential nomination.

In response to the curriculum, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), the lone Black Republican representing Florida in Congress, tweeted that "the attempt to feature the personal benefits of slavery is wrong & needs to be adjusted."

Vice President Harris also chastised the new Florida requirements. During a visit to the state this month, she underlined that slavery involves rape, torture, and "some of the worst examples of depriving people of humanity in our world."

DeSantis disregarded Harris' comments and accused her of lying "about Florida's educational standards to cover for their agenda of indoctrinating students and pushing sexual topics onto children."

Republicans running for president have slammed DeSantis' position as well.

Do you think DeSantis still has a chance to win the primaries?
