City of Topeka approves funding for new sidewalks in Oakland neighborhood
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Governing Body also approved funding to improve sidewalks in the Oakland neighborhood. The $340,000 project will see new sidewalks constructed on the 500-700 blocks of several streets: NE Ohio, NE Sumner, NE Poplar, NE Green, NE Chester, NE Wabash, and NE Forest and along NE Division, NE Laurent, and NE Sardou.

Contracts awarded for two upcoming turnpike construction projects in Topeka
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Contracts have been awarded for two upcoming turnpike construction projects in Topeka, Kan. According to the Kansas Turnpike Authority, Contract No. 8094 has been awarded for drainage rehabilitation at mile marker 178, I-470/KTA. The contract was awarded to Bettis Asphalt & Construction, Inc., Topeka, Kan., for $143,615.
Independence Day celebration returns Thursday to Grace Cathedral in Topeka
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - After an absence of several years, a red-white-and-blue extravaganza returns on the Fourth of July to a Topeka church. The event, which hasn’t been held since it was put on hold following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, returns at 10 a.m. Thursday to Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 S.W. 8th Ave. just west of downtown Topeka.

2024 Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Class Announced
Wichita, Kan. – Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Jim Dunning, Jr., announced today the selection of 12 individuals to be inducted, Sunday, Oct. 13 in Topeka. The class includes seven individuals who have ties to Olympic competition, including a gold medalist, paralympic medalist and the only American to be named a head track and field starter for two Olympic Games. The group also includes national champion coaches, collegiate champions and All-Americans, and American-record holders.
