Topeka Cat Café opening date set, what to know

TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – A unique new local business is set to open its doors to the public in Topeka later this month with plenty of kittens and cats for you to hang out with.

April Liang and Toni Fowler have been working hard to get their new business, the Topeka Cat Café , up and running. Now, months after they initially revealed their plans , the pair say they are almost ready to let customers visit to grab a cup of coffee, a snack and hang out with some cute cats. The women issued a press release on July 17 on the café’s imminent grand opening celebration which is set for Wednesday, July 24.

On and after this date, people can start visiting the café and enjoying its services which includes helping resident cats find loving homes in the community.

“We’re thrilled to bring this innovative concept to Topeka,” Liang said. “Our goal is to create a relaxing environment that promotes animal welfare and community connection.”

The Topeka Cat Café is working with several other organizations such as Team Kitten and Brown Humane Society to house and care for their felines. Royal Canin is also assisting with adoption services for those who are interested in taking a kitty home with them. All cats at the café are fully vaccinated, dewormed, spayed/neutered, microchipped and given a health checkup daily.

Visitors at the café can check out its gift shop which includes a slew of cat toys, merchandise and more. There will also be goods for sale from local businesses like Hazel Hill, Bella’s Home Baked Goods and Reisman’s Bakery. An assortment of cookies, croissants, brownies, frappes, tea and other products can be purchased here.

Fowler and Liang encourage people wanting to visit the café to book a time slot in advance. While walk-ins are welcomed, some guests may have to wait if the lounge is fully booked. This can be done on the Topeka Cat Café’s website for either the Cat Lounge or Kitten Room.

Other special events people can enjoy at the café includes yoga, tai chi, painting and movie nights. People can also purchase membership options or book the location for private events.
