    These are the candidates on the ballot in Topeka for August primary election

    Early voting is already underway in Shawnee County for the Aug. 6 primary election.

    Whether you are advance voting in-person, voting early by mail or going in-person on Election Day, here's what is on the ballot.

    Kansas' 2nd Congressional District

    Kansas' 2nd Congressional District covers much of eastern Kansas, minus most of the Kansas City metro area.

    Republican primary candidates are Jeff Kahrs, Michael A. Ogle, Derek Schmidt, Shawn Tiffany and Chad Young.

    Democratic primary candidates are Nancy Boyda and Matt Kleinmann.

    Kansas House of Representatives

    Topeka and Shawnee County have eight seats in the Kansas House, only one of which has a contested primary.

    • House District 50 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between Republican incumbent Rep. Kyle McNorton and Democratic challenger Jessica "JP" Porter.
    • House District 52 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between Republican incumbent Rep. Jesse Borjon and Democratic challenger Jacquie Whitney Lightcap.
    • House District 53 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between Democratic incumbent Rep. Kirk Haskins and Republican challenger Jeff Coen.
    • House District 54 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between Republican incumbent Rep. Ken Corbet and Democratic challenger Jade Pearson Ramsdell.
    • House District 55 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between Democratic incumbent Rep. Tobias Schlingensiepen and Republican challenger Michael Barron.
    • House District 56 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between Democratic incumbent Rep. Virgil Weigel and Republican challenger Pennie Boyer-Kloos.
    • House District 57 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between Democratic incumbent Rep. John Alcala and Republican challenger Donna J. McGinty.
    • House District 58 has a contested Democratic primary between Wendy Damman-Bednar and Alexis Simmons. The winner is set to face Republican Michael Mathewson.

    Kansas Senate

    Topeka used to be split into three Senate districts, but after redistricting is now split into four.

    • Senate District 3 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between incumbent Sen. Rick Kloos, R-Berryton, and Democratic challenger Dena Sattler.
    • Senate District 18 has uncontested primaries, setting up a general election contest between Rep. Kenny Titus, R-Manhattan, and Democrat Matthew Robin, of Wamego.
    • The new district map created a new Senate District 19, which has contested primaries for both Democrats and Republicans. On the Democratic ballot are ShaMecha King Simms, Vic Miller and Patrick Schmidt. On the Republican ballot are Cynthia Smith and Tyler Wible.
    • Senate District 20 also has a contested Republican primary with Josh Powell challenging incumbent Sen. Brenda Dietrich, R-Topeka. Democrat Candace L. Ayars is uncontested in the primary.

    Kansas State Board of Education

    Topeka is split into three districts for the Kansas State Board of Education, two of which are up for election this year.

    • District 4 has a contested Republican primary among Nancy Moneymaker, of De Soto, Gina Montalbano Zesiger, of Lawrence, and Connie O'Brien, of Tonganoxie. The winner is set to face Kris Meyer, a De Soto Democrat.
    • Without contested primaries, District 6 is set for a general election contest between Beryl Ann New, a Topeka Democrat, and Bruce Schultz, a Wamego Republican.

    Shawnee County Commission

    Two of three seats on the Shawnee County Commission are up for election this year.

    • In District 2, Democratic incumbent Commissioner Kevin Cook faces a primary challenge from Robert Soria. The winner is set to face Republican Henry McClure.
    • In District 3, Republican incumbent Commissioner Aaron D. Mays faces a primary challenge from Brett M. Blackburn. No Democrat filed for the race.

    Shawnee County offices

    • Mike Kagay, the Republican incumbent Shawnee County district attorney, is unopposed in both the primary and general elections.
    • Brian C. Hill, the Republican incumbent Shawnee County sheriff, is unopposed in both the primary and general elections.
    • With uncontested primaries for Shawnee County treasurer, the race is set to be Republican Angus Tucker and Democrat Susan Duffy.
    • With uncontested primaries for Shawnee County clerk, the race is set to be Democrat Jonathan Smith and Republican Lisa Schmitt.
    • Becky Nioce, the Republican incumbent for Shawnee County register of deeds, is unopposed in both the primary and general elections.

    Other offices

    Also on the ballot are multiple township races and positions as political party precinct committeemen and committeewomen.
