PARIS ( KSNT ) – It’s the Opening Day for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris!

One of Topeka’s very own has been soaking up every moment in Paris as a volunteer at the games.

Michael Callaway safely arrived to the Olympic Village after being one of 766 chosen to be a chaperone volunteer at the Olympics. His position is apart of ant-doping, so he will help transport at the athletes to be drug tested.

We got the opportunity to check-in with Callaway while he was watching the opening ceremonies from his window.

“A lot of people were, and I was disappointed because I wanted to see and be part of an opening ceremony,” Callaway said. “And then I started realizing, well I am, I’m here. Like I said before you can hear the helicopters. We can see the Eiffel Tower in the background. every night I’ve been waking up at 3 o clock because they have been rehearsing.”

Callaway has had one official day volunteering but is looking forward to getting to work next Monday at his dedicated spot and to continue this unique experience.
