With a 7-6 win earlier today against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the San Diego Padres have won 14 of their last 16 games. This stellar streak included seven straight victories and their current five-game winning streak. San Diego won this afternoon following three runs in the top of the ninth inning.

The Padres won last night 9-8 in extra innings thanks to another comeback victory. They scored four runs in the game's final two innings to nab the 9-8 victory. The offense of the San Diego Padres has been the driving force behind this spectacular stretch of games. San Diego has scored seven or more runs in seven of their last 16 games. Will the San Diego Padres continue playing well as they chase a playoff spot?

San Diego Padres Season Summary

San Diego(64-52) is in second place in the National League West and occupies the top National League Wild Card spot. This strong run has the Padres just 2.5 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the division. The Padres have had one of the league's best offenses in 2024. They lead the league in batting average, are 11th in home runs, and 11th in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Left Fielder Jurickson Profar. He leads the team in all important offensive categories and is 14th in the league in batting average and 18th in RBI.

The pitching staff of the San Diego Padres has been average this season. They are 15th in ERA, second in strikeouts, and 13th in opposing batting average. Their pitching staff is led by Dylan Cease. He is top-10 in the league in wins and leading the league in strikeouts. Closer Robert Suarez is also fourth in the league with 25 saves.

Padres Upcoming Schedule

San Diego heads south to the "Sunshine State" where they begin a three-game series with the Miami Marlins tomorrow. The Padres have themselves in a prime position to make the MLB Playoffs after a disappointing season left them on the outside last season. If the San Diego Padres can continue playing well, the National League West is not out of the question.

The San Diego Padres have had great success this season against the Dodgers as they are 7-3 this season against their rivals. These teams will face off against one another in three more games this season in late September in Los Angeles. San Diego has been riding high in the past 16 games and has the roster to make the 2024 season a memorable one. Only time will tell if they will be able to make a deep run in the MLB Playoffs.
