I won't spoil it too much, but they can cause some really cool changes, one I will mention is zip tracks.

Another celebrated gameplay mechanic is the ability to play different characters which is new to this franchise. Some of the characters include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, etc. Each character has special abilities so it's important to use them in certain levels. This title has been celebrated for its design and family-friendly gameplay. It even won awards for such categories in 2023 at The Game Awards.

2. Princess Peach: Showtime!

Princess Peach: Showtime! is one of the best Switch games in 2024. It's a charming platformer that, finally, puts Princess Peach in the spotlight. It was developed by Nintendo and places Peach center stage, pun intended, as she ventures through various theatrical settings to save her kingdom. The game’s premise is unique and the vibrant art style really catches your attention. It's also rare for the damsel in distress to be the hero of the story.

The most notable gameplay mechanic is the costume transformations. They allow Peach to switch between different roles as you advance, each having a unique ability. The stage-based levels are a nice change in comparison to more traditional platformers. This title has been praised for its inventive gameplay storyline. I have played this game and while it's definitely not the most difficult game out there I found it super fun.

3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a life simulation game developed by Nintendo. It was released on March 20th, 2020 but is one of the best Switch games in 2024. Set on a deserted island, the game allows players to create their own paradise while interacting with animal villagers. The expanded customization options in comparison to previous Animal Crossing games give players more freedom than ever to personalize their islands and homes.

New to this edition is terraforming, players can create elevated areas, flatten areas, and even create water features. Additionally, the seasonal events keep the game engaging. New Horizons remains a fan favorite due to its relaxing gameplay, and to solidify that fact, it's by far my favorite Nintendo Switch game. I love fishing and diving in this game, and overall I find it really entertaining.
