Tyler Boyd 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Bounceback or Bust?

2023 marked the end of Tyler Boyds’ tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals. After eight seasons in Cincinnati, the Pittsburgh alum finds himself a new home in Tennessee.

Will having a change of scenery revitalize his career and bring Tyler Boyd back to fantasy relevancy?

Famous for his play as a slot receiver, Tyler Boyd will look to give his quarterback in Tennessee a reliable option on any down. Having a familiar face in head coach Brian Callahan could get Tyler Boyd more involved in the offense consistently.

Callahan and Boyd have had success together during their time in Cincinnati. Can they bring the Queen City magic to Music City, or has the Boyd-Callahan magic run its course?

2023 Statistics

In 2023, Tyler Boyd had one of the worst seasons of his career. He still caught 67 passes, but he only turned that into 667 yards, and two touchdowns according to ESPN. Boyd had the third-lowest yardage total of his entire career.

Granted, he was playing with a backup due to Joe Burrow missing multiple games with a season-ending wrist injury. This resulted in Boyd only having two touchdowns last season. Playing with Jake Browning had an impact on his fantasy finish.

Looking to Build Chemistry

Deandre Hopkins will be out for the next few weeks, according to Sports Illustrated. Look for Boyd to have more opportunities to build a connection with the Titans quarterback Will Levis.

Tennessee has a good receiving core with lots of depth, so targets could come at a premium heading into this season. With a healthy Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Tyler Boyd, they form a formidable group at receiver. Pair that with Burks, and Westbrook-Inkhine off the bench and you have possibly the deepest wide receiver room in the entire league.

Draft Position Risk

Currently coming off the boards as the wide receiver 84 (Sleeper) his ADP of 236.3 shouldn’t scare anybody. He should be on the waiver wire in most 10 and 12-team leagues. In 12-team leagues, Tyler Boyd may see a spot in line-ups during the bye weeks.

In 2023, Boyd finished as the wide receiver 49 in Sleeper. This was three spots ahead of his projected finish as wide receiver 52. In ‘22, he finished as wide receiver 34. Good enough for 18 spots above his projections of 52 again.

Could Tyler Boyd once again finish above his projections or are his exceeding expectation days over?

Final Thoughts

Although Tyler Boyd has proven to be able to finish above his projections, having an unfamiliar quarterback may cause more inconsistency than he’s had in the past.

Boyd has been reliable and consistent throughout the eight seasons. In 2024, Boyd should have a fair year. Unfortunately, it may be time to consider that Tyler Boyd’s fantasy relevance is reaching an end.
