Jude Law's Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has First Trailer Revealed

The first trailer for Disney's and Jude Law's new Star Wars show Star Wars: Skeleton Crew dropped at D23 this week and it looks really good. From the trailer, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew looks to be a tale about four kids who accidentally embark on a journey across the Star Wars galaxy. The children seem to get lost and presumably will need to find their way home. Jude Law's character also made an appearance and he appears to be a Jedi or at the very least force-sensitive. Ever since the trailer dropped people have been referring to it as Star Wars meets The Goonies which doesn't seem inaccurate.

    Star Wars Suburbia

Something really interesting that Star Wars has never shown before is what normal suburban life is like in a galaxy far far away. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is changing that as we not only see the kids riding on a speeder school bus, but we also see what a neighborhood in Star Wars looks like. We see one of the kids running through what is presumably their neighborhood as they avoid an Ithorian who is out walking their space dog. The houses all look similar with trees and street lights littering the yards and sidewalks respectively.

The trailer also shows the children in school with the kids in class listening to a teacher talk about taking a test that will determine their future. An earlier scene in the trailer shows a large room full of kids sitting at desks in uniforms which is more than likely them taking said test. There are droids seen moving between the rows of desks in the testing hall which are probably used to deter/catch cheaters. While this isn't the first time a Star Wars show has had a school in it with The Mandalorian being the first, it definitely gives off a vibe for why the kids seem to be bored in life.

    Lost In Space

The four kids which are made up of three humans named Wim, KB, and Fern, and their Ortolan friend Neel find an abandoned starship with a skeleton and a rather rundown-looking droid on it. The skeleton has what looks to be a knife or a sword stabbed into it indicating how they died and it's a good possibility they were even the former owner of the ship. While there's no frame of reference for how long the ship has been inactive, it's been long enough for a body to not only decompose but also become a skeleton.

The trailer shows the four of them activating the ship which activates the droid and launches the ship into hyperspace which is how the kids become lost. The droid is named SM-33 and is being voiced by actor and comedian Nick Frost. SM-33 seems to be a play on words for the name Smee who is a pirate character from Peter Pan. This further shows the inspiration between The Goonies and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Jon Watts in an interview with StarWars.com said "At its core it's a story about wanting to explore a world that's bigger than your own,".

Jude Law's character also received a name and is now known as Jod Na Nawood and we see him appear near the end of the trailer. The kids seem to have been captured and put in a cage and watch as the key gets telepathically lifted off the wall and given to them by Law's character. This could indicate that Jod Na Nawood is a survivor of Palpatine's Order 66 that was given back in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. We also see some X-wings in the trailer too which could indicate whatever part of the galaxy they're in falls under New Republic jurisdiction.

    Future Star Wars Content

Star War: Skeleton Crew wasn't the only Star Wars content talked about at D23 this year. Andor season two which now has a 2025 release date will have both Ben Mendelson and Alan Tudyk in it with each of them reprising their roles from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Lucasfilm also confirmed that Ahsoka season two has been greenlit and is in the works. Star Wars fans will have to wait until May 22nd, 2026 for the next Star Wars film to hit theaters as that's when The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to come out.

In December of 2026, Daisy Ridley will be returning as Rey for the post-sequel era film Star Wars: New Jedi Order which will show Rey as she tries to rebuild the Jedi Order. For a more lighthearted show, the next Lego Star Wars show titled Rebuild the Galaxy will premiere on Disney+ on September 13th. Rebuild the Galaxy will feature Darth Jar Jar which is a joke theory about Jar Jar Binks secretly being a Sith lord. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will premiere on December Third this year and will be eight episodes long.
