AC Milan Makes it Official with Emerson Royal

Emerson Royal has chosen to leave Tottenham, trading their white kit for the black and red of AC Milan. Has been officially confirmed by AC Milan, this high-profile transfer, and everything is now finalized as Emerson prepares for his new chapter in Italy. The contract is valid until 2028 with also a possible option to extend for another year.

Emerson Royal is reportedly to wear the number 22 shirt at Milan. With medical preparations already underway, Emerson Royal is expected to arrive in Italy soon. He will be AC Milan’s third signing of the transfer window, and likely their final addition. Before this, Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic had already joined the club.

The transfer process for Emerson Royal extended over several months, with Tottenham eager to offload him to free up funds for new signings. Discussions began in early June, and the decision has now been made. Royal, wanting to remain in Europe, chose this move.

Emerson Royal had a challenging 2023-2024 season with Tottenham, making only eleven appearances across all competitions. Despite his limited playtime and form issues, he attracted interest from two top-tier clubs: AC Milan and Al Nassr. At just 25 years old, Emerson was keen to continue proving himself in Europe and was not inclined to leave.

His experience in the Premier League demonstrates his capability and knowledge of the game, making a move to a prestigious club like AC Milan a sensible and promising opportunity. He had joined Spurs in 2021 after leaving the Barcelona side. Since then, he has made 101 appearances across all competitions. He has also made a total of 10 caps for his nation, Brazil.

At AC Milan, Emerson will play a crucial role as a left-back, tasked with significant responsibilities on both the offensive and defensive fronts. Given his background and skills, he has a strong chance of succeeding in this role.

Transfer Fee and Other Financial Criteria

Although the original salary is yet to be disclosed by any of the parties, AC Milan will pay approximately 15 million euros plus an additional 3 million euros in add-ons for the 25-year-old player. His flights and medical appointments are being arranged, and he is expected to appear in Milan on Tuesday at the Milan centre for medicals.

The acquisitions of Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic have also been costly for AC Milan, with a combined expenditure of 40 million euros. With these significant investments, the club may now be closing the door on further signings.
