Mike Williams 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Mike Williams is entering his 8th NFL season. The veteran wide receiver spent the previous seven seasons with the Charger organization in Los Angeles and San Diego, but will now suit up for the New York Jets in the 2024 season.

Williams has been a dominant WR2 his entire career and a good WR2/Flex option for fantasy owners. Though injuries have plagued parts of his career and lowered his overall production, a fresh start in New York could be what Williams needs to return to how he used to perform.

Mike Williams Fantasy Upside

On the upside, Mike Williams could return to his roots as one of the best WR2s in the NFL. Now behind the young phenom Garrett Wilson in the depth chart, Williams will be one of the premier targets for the Jets. Aside from those two, Breece Hall is also a young phenom and one of the most explosive players in the league. With Hall forcing defenses to gameplan for the run, Williams should have a good shot at producing at a good rate.

Another upside is his quarterback, 4x MVP, and Super Bowl champion Aaron Rodgers. Though Williams has had good quarterbacks in the past such as Phillip Rivers and Justin Herbert, neither of them compare to Rodgers. Thanks to an achilles injury during the first game of the 2023 season, Rodgers will also technically be starting his first season with the Jets alongside Williams. With a fresh start and a more talented and explosive team around him, Williams could be in for a good year.

Mike Williams Fantasy Downside

On the downside, Mike Williams’ fantasy production could disappear in New York. Though this is unlikely to happen if he is on the field, it is undoubtedly something to fear when drafting him. He is coming into his 8th season, following a serious injury, on a new team. That is a recipe for disaster. While it is still just a possibility that Williams hits the cliff, he will be one of the riskiest draft selections this fantasy season.

Another downside is the weapons surrounding him. Wilson and Hall will be targeted regardless, but players like Tyler Conklin and Allen Lazard, who is a long-time teammate of QB1 Rodgers, could also draw away attention. No one doubts the talent that Williams brings to the table, but will he be able to bounce back with the difficult circumstances?

Mike Williams is expected to be a late draft selection or even go undrafted. Though seeing how his year starts and hoping to get him off of waivers is most likely the best thing to do, drafting him could have an upside. Can Williams return to where he left off, or will he stay off of fantasy rosters this season?
