Philadelphia Phillies Make Wrong Kind Of History

The Philadelphia Phillies did something tonight they had not done in exactly one year. They were shut out at home for the first time since August 13, 2023, when they lost 3-0 to the Minnesota Twins. Philadelphia lost 5-0 to the Miami Marlins as they were only able to muster four hits tonight. The high-powered Philadelphia Phillies had no answer for Marlins Starting Pitcher Valente Bellozo who tossed seven scoreless innings and punched out four.

Tonight's loss was Philadelphia's fourth in a row as the ballclub has struggled coming out of the MLB All-Star break. Philadelphia has been outscored 31-8 over their last four games. They are 7-16 in the second half of the regular season and ended a six-game skid a little more than a week ago. Will the Philadelphia Phillies get back on track before it is too late?

Philadelphia Phillies Season Summary

Philadelphia(69-50) has had a great regular season up until this point. They hold a commanding lead in the National League East and have the second-best record in the National League. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the only NL team with a better record than the Philadelphia Phillies. Philadelphia has been led by a strong offense this season. They are seventh in batting average, 10th in home runs, and ninth in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Third Baseman Alec Bohm and Designated Hitter Kyle Schwarber. Bohm is top-15 in the league in batting average and RBI while Schwarber is 10th in the league in home runs and ninth in On Base Percentage.

The pitching staff of the Philadelphia Phillies has also been stellar this season. They are third in ERA, seventh in strikeouts, and third in WHIP. Starting Pitchers Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler are tied for the team lead in wins(11) while Wheeler is fourth in ERA, 10th in strikeouts, and seventh in WHIP.

Phillies Upcoming Schedule

The Philadelphia Phillies play the final game of their two-game series with the Miami Marlins tomorrow evening. Philadelphia remains at home where they begin a four-game set with the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

Philadelphia has more than enough time to recapture their momentum from the first half of the regular season, but time is still of the essence. They were the best team in Major League Baseball for a large stretch of the season but have hit a rough patch. The Phillies have been one of the league's best teams over the past two seasons but have come up just short in the MLB Postseason.
