    Eric Gray 2024 Fantasy Outlook

    User-posted content

With the recent injury to rookie Tyrone Tracy and after his preseason performance, Eric Gray could become fantasy-relevant this year. Of course, he is behind veteran free agent signing Devin Singletary on the depth chart.

However, Gray could get more usage throughout the season in a split backfield if the Giants don’t bring anyone else in. The 24-year-old was placed on injured reserve during his rookie year last season but is slated to take a step forward in 2024 for New York.

    Eric Gray Stats and Production

The former fifth-rounder from Oklahoma saw little usage behind Saquon Barkley last season with the Giants. New York took a risk by letting Barkley hit free agency, as he stayed in the NFC East division by going to Philadelphia. Now with the Eagles, their division rivalry just got more interesting.

Eric Gray will be involved in the collective group that will try to replicate the former two-time Pro Bowler’s production. As far-fetched as that seems, replacing the 27-year-old and former top-two draft pick from 2018 may not be the focal point in unlocking the Giant’s offense this year.

    Gray’s 2024 Fantasy Outlook

The former Sooner had 17 carries for 48 yards on the ground last year in ample playing time in 13 games played but no starts. Entering his second year, Eric Gray showcased some talent with his preseason performance against the Detroit Lions. The talented back will have to prove himself in the next two preseason matchups while Singletary rests on the bench with the starters.

He rushed for 52 yards on 4 carries and ran it in twice in the endzone, with one being a 48-yard scamper. Eric Gray made an impact as a receiver, catching all 4 passes for 46 yards through the air. It is the preseason, but it is encouraging that the run blocking and production on the ground was a positive for their backup offense. They brought in a few free-agent offensive linemen this offseason.

Eric Gray’s ADP in PPR is 286th overall, so he won’t be drafted in redraft. However, he could be an interesting dynasty asset or potential starter to pick up as a leadback. Gray offers more size than Singletary and has good vision as a one-cut runner. The preseason could elevate his stock further.

    Final Thoughts on Gray

The passing game will highlight quarterback Daniel Jones and first-round receiver Malik Nabers. The rookie has been lighting up training camp, along with rookie tight end Theo Johnson and receiver Darius Slayton. Receivers Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt will also get many looks this preseason.

According to Fantasy Pros, Eric Gray is the 80th-ranked running back in PPR and was running with the first team in training camp. However, the former fifth-round rookie Tracy is the 70th-ranked back in PPR and is a former receiver-converted running back.

His injury, despite being air cast in a cart and taken to the hospital after it occurred, was announced as a low ankle sprain. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the rookie is week-to-week in a walking boot. The 24-year-old had 5 carries for 26 yards and looked good as well in his preseason debut. It will be interesting how Eric Gray will be utilized in Brian Daboll’s offense in 2024.
