Patrick Mahomes Pulls Off Trick Play For 1st Down

Patrick Mahomes is picking up right where he left off after winning his 3rd Super Bowl this past February. The Kansas City Chief’s superstar quarterback did something that most quarterbacks wouldn’t even attempt during the 1st quarter of Saturday’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions. On a 3rd down and 3, Mahomes completed a trick behind-the-back pass to tight end Travis Kelce for a first down.

Mahomes has been known to make plays that no other quarterback can make and that is part of why he is widely considered the best quarterback in football. Granted this is just the preseason, but the Chiefs have not given any reason to believe they won’t be in the mix to win their third straight Super Bowl.

Patrick Mahomes Makes Another “Patrick Mahomes” Play

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are one of the most lethal duos in football history. Since the two teamed up, one of the most automatic short-yardage plays for the Chiefs has been the underhand shovel pass head coach Andy Reid has dialed up. Mahomes put a different spin on this one and made a behind-the-back pass to Kelce who picked up the first down.

We’ll see if Mahomes dares to pull this move in a regular season and playoffs. He has already completed a pass with his left hand in a regular season game before so we shouldn’t put it past him to bring out the behind-the-back at some point.

    Chiefs Seeking Three-Peat

The 2024-25 Kansas City Chiefs are seeking the first three-peat in NFL history. The Chiefs are coming off super victories over the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers in the previous two seasons. Another Super Bowl victory in New Orleans this upcoming February would put Kansas City all alone as the only team to win three straight Super Bowls. Can they get it done?

The answer as long as they have Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid is unequivocally yes. The AFC is loaded with teams like the Ravens, Bills, Bengals, and the up-and-coming Texans, but you can’t bet against the Chiefs. There is only one current NFL quarterback to beat Mahomes in a playoff and his name is Joe Burrow. Burrow was injured last year so hopefully, he will be healthy this upcoming season.

For Patrick Mahomes, he is coming off his worst statistical season as a pro. This will be overlooked because of his playoff performance resulting in a Super Bowl win. However, the fact is that last year’s Chiefs team was led by their defense. Time will tell which side of the ball the Chiefs will lean on for this season.
