Anthony Richardson Dynasty Outlook 2024

Coming out of the 2023 NFL draft there were a lot of questions surrounding Anthony Richardson, specifically his accuracy issues. Starting only 13 games in his college career at The University of Florida before declaring for the draft didn’t help his case.

Nevertheless, the Colts saw something they liked in him enough to take him in the first draft round, fourth overall and the third quarterback selected.

It’s not hard to see the upside the Colts saw in him at 6’4″ 244lbs with a strong arm and the ability to scramble and escape the pocket under pressure. After the draft, the Colts signed Richardson to a 4-year, $33,994,031 with an average annual value (AAV) of $8,498,508.

It is safe to say that due to the high amount of draft capital spent on drafting Anthony Richardson, he will be given every chance to be successful in the NFL if he can stay healthy.

It is tough to draw many conclusions from Anthony Richardson’s injury-riddled rookie season, as he only started four total games and only finished one of the four. Richardson went 50 for 84, passing for 577 yards with 3 touchdowns and one interception, he also rushed 25 times for 136 yards and 4 touchdowns.

His accuracy issues carried over from college as he had a completion percentage of 59.5 percent, below the league average of 65.7 percent. You can’t draw any conclusions from Richardson finishing 44th in fantasy at the quarterback position because of all the injuries resulting in lack of playing time, but he had 19.6 points per game which is promising.

Richardson’s Dynasty Value for Fantasy

Do you think Anthony Richardson can stay healthy? This is what you must ask yourself to figure out if he is worth having in a dynasty league. All the athleticism in the world is useless if he only plays in four games a year.

The Colts are incentivized to keep their investment healthy enough to play all season. There’s a fine line between limiting some of the risks and changing the style of play that makes him special enough to take fourth overall in the draft, to begin with. In Redraft leagues, he’s worth a mid to late-round pick if he falls to you in a spot where you can get him without jeopardizing any other starting spots.

If you have Anthony Richardson on your dynasty team I would hang onto him if you have depth at the QB position and can afford not to have him start every game for now, if you don’t have depth at the position and need someone more reliable you could try to trade him for some more useful players but I wouldn’t be giving him away. Make sure you’re getting good value back for him.

Final Thoughts

If you don’t have any shares of Anthony Richardson and believe he could stay healthy now, that would be the perfect time to buy low on him. You might be able to find a panicked Richardson owner who is worried about the long-term health of the Colts quarterback and might be willing to move him for less than it cost to draft him.

Anthony Richardson went in the first round of most rookie drafts last season, so chances are whoever paid that price to land him isn’t going to sell after one season. His price tag won’t ever be lower to acquire him compared to right now.
