Iowa Names Cade McNamara Starting QB For 2024 Season

Cade McNamara transferred to the Iowa Hawkeyes from Michigan in December 2022. McCarthy in 2022, he transferred to Iowa. McNamara played in five games for the Hawkeyes last season before his season was cut short due to a knee injury suffered against Michigan State.

McNamara has been in tight competition with Northwestern transfer Brendan Sullivan this preseason. Coach Kirk Ferentz thinks McNamara is the best man to lead the team this year.

Iowa Hawkeyes Coaching Situation

After an NCAA infractions case that pointed at violations regarding the recruitment of McNamara, Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz will serve a one-game suspension. The suspension sidelines Ferentz from the Hawkeyes season opener against Illinois State. Also on suspension for the same case is wide receivers coach Jon Budmayr. Assistant head coach Seth Wallace will act as the head coach in said game.

Ferentz, in his 26th year with Iowa, expressed regret for the violation. He accepted the error and apologized to the players, leaders of the university, and the fans. To his credit, he is one of the most respected figures in college football. He enjoyed a great tenure at Iowa for more than two-and-a-half decades.

McNamara's Role

With McNamara now named the starting quarterback, he is going to be key to the Iowa Hawkeyes' success this season. His performance in the Michigan game and the vigor of his recovery from his injury will most likely shape how well he can frame a great direction for the team.
