J.K. Dobbins 2024 Fantasy Outlook

J.K Dobbins is entering his fourth season in the NFL but his first season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Dobbins signed a one-year $1.6 million contract with a $50,000 signing bonus of guaranteed money.

He is a former Ohio State Buckeye who was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2020. Dobbins was the 55th pick overall in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In the 23 games played in the NFL, he has 234 rushing attempts, 1,347 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Dobbins’ downfall in his NFL career is that he has been plagued with injuries. He has suffered a torn ACL, LCL, and Achilles injuries in his NFL career.

J.K. Dobbins is coming off an Achilles injury that he suffered last season and missed the entire 2023 season. Dobbins is now signed with the LA Chargers this year after the Ravens let him go. In 2022, Dobbins had 92 rushing attempts, 520 yards, and two rushing touchdowns until he suffered a torn ACL in week 6. Dobbins is now back for the 2024 season after signing in free agency, hoping to compete and get touches. Gus Edwards is most likely the starting running back in LA.

J.K. Dobbins is worth picking in the later rounds of the 2024 fantasy draft in all leagues. When he does play and is not injured Dobbins averages over 5.7 yards a carry. His projections this year are 137 rushing attempts, 557 rushing yards, and six touchdowns. He is also projected to have 43 targets, 33 receptions, 270 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns. The projected fantasy points for the year are 171.0 and 10 an average of 10 fantasy points a game.

With Dobbins in a new system under Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman, Dobbins might find himself valuable and productive in this new offense for the Chargers. The statistics on NFL players with Achille injuries show a 26% of players never return to play.

It is worth keeping an eye on J.K. Dobbins this season. Even if he is drafted as the last pick in the draft, he can be a solid backup RB. The former Baltimore running back, now with a new team, should be good in all fantasy football leagues.

If healthy, he can do some damage with the Los Angeles Chargers, and a Jim Harbaugh-type offense can be beneficial for him. The 25-year-old reunites with offensive coordinator Roman, recreating a tandem with him and veteran power back Edwards. Both running backs are selected around Cincinnati Bengals rushers Zach Moss and Chase Brown in fantasy drafts.
