Three Miami Dolphins to Miss Opener, Says McDaniel

As the Miami Dolphins finalize their roster, injuries have become a major hurdle during the offseason. A key injury designation used in the NFL is the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, which requires a player to remain inactive for the season’s first four games. Before the 53-man roster cutdown deadline (4 pm e.t. August 27), head coach Mike McDaniel announced three players who will miss games on the PUP list.

Miami Dolphins Reveal Three Players On Injury List

The Miami Dolphins will be without star edge rusher Bradley Chubb (ACL) guard Isaiah Wynn (lower body) and pass rusher Cameron Goode (knee) to begin their 2024 NFL season. Newly acquired wide receiver ODell Beckham Jr remains in PUP designation, however, Mike McDaniel was unsure how he would be listed to begin the season.

TBD (to be determined), TBD. More information required… There is not a scenario where he is going to jump out there with a cape on without practicing at all.” McDaniel said when asked about Beckham’s PUP consideration.

Injuries to wide receiver Anthony Schwartz, linebacker Cam Brown, and guard Kion Smith will keep them on injury reserve deep into the 2024 season. With further minor injuries to numerous other key players like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the Miami Dolphins will need as much availability as they can find.

    Miami Dolphins Injury Outlook

As injuries influence the Miami Dolphins, their game plan must adjust as they enter the season. Bradley Chubb and Cameron Goode are both sidelined for at least four games, with the potential for a longer recovery. In their absence, the Dolphins will lean on veterans Jaelan Phillips and Emmanuel Ogbah, along with rookie duo Chop Robinson and Mo Kamara to anchor the edge positions.

On the offensive side, Isaiah Wynn’s injury also leaves a gap at left guard, where he’s expected to miss at least four games. Rob Jones is likely to step in as the starter. The Dolphins have not confirmed if Wynn’s absence is tied to the season-ending quadriceps injury he sustained last October, leaving some uncertainty surrounding his return.

Odell Beckham’s injury situation remains shrouded in mystery, particularly given the sense of caution the Miami Dolphins projected in the spring. What began as a prudent approach has turned into a puzzling absence, as Beckham hasn’t taken the field all summer. While Coach McDaniel remains hopeful about his return, no clear timeline has been provided.

You want to be optimistic, but you have to listen to the body and keep the communication open, Beckham said.

I know he’s feeling good about his progress, but we’re taking it one day at a time. I’m not overly worried because he’s stayed engaged with the team, even though he hasn’t been playing. It’s tough to lead from the sidelines, but his mindset is right, and that reassures me. Mike McDaniel expressed

As the Dolphins adapt to these early setbacks, depth and resilience will be key in their approach to the season.
