In a significant boost to the ailing domestic cricket scene in India, the BCCI announced on Monday that it would introduce prize money for player-of-the-match and player-of-the-tournament awards in all women’s and junior cricket competitions. It would be a new step to identify and reward performances at various levels of domestic cricket. Further player-of-the-match awards in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournaments for senior men will also be provided. The addition was made public by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah via his social media account who apprised how the board is working relentlessly to bring in an even more rewarding and satisfactory system for cricketers across the country.

Rewarding Performances in Women’s and Junior Cricket

The introduction of prize money in women’s and junior cricket competitions marks a very important milestone in promotion and sustenance for young and female cricketers. The BCCI will make strategic efforts to ensure added incentive in players at this level by way of financial advantage for good performances that will keep the interest and enthusiasm for the game alive throughout their playing life. This not only helps recognize individual brilliance but also encourages more young talent to take the sport seriously.

Apart from linguistic support for women’s and junior cricket, the BCCI is all geared up to reward prize money to senior domestic tournaments. Rewarding cash awards have now been added to support the outstanding performances of players in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournaments, as this will also emphasize the fact that the BCCI values and rewards the hard work and excellence presented in domestic cricket.

Last year, the BCCI was in the news for increasing prize money for domestic tournaments. The Ranji Trophy winners got a cash reward of Rs 5 crore, a manifold increase from previous years. Prize money for the Irani Cup was doubled: winners would get Rs 50 lakh and runners-up Rs 25 lakh. This increment underlined the commitment of the BCCI towards enhancing the financial rewards for domestic cricket.

BCCI: Ensuring Continued Promotion of Domestic Cricket

A decision like this, of late, will be a leap forward for the BCCI in its support and promotion of domestic cricket. With prize money in such contests, the board makes it competitive and rewarding, simultaneously making the new approach in line with promoting a competitive environment. This is just one step toward building up the continuous process of the BCCI and raising the level of Indian cricket by bringing up budding players.

With prize money on offer in junior and women’s cricket, too, the BCCI is sending a strong signal that domestic cricket will be valued more. Young players will feel their hard work is being recognized, acknowledged, and rewarded. This can give them immense confidence boosts to drive themselves towards greatness in their cricketing careers.

    A Step Towards Greater Recognition

The prizes are not only in monetary value but also in recognition of the players’ efforts. The fact that BCCI has moved to give player-of-the-match and player-of-the-tournament awards is a recognition of the talent and hard work the players put into the game. It is also a pointer for other cricket boards on how to go about recognizing and rewarding the players in domestic competitions.

It is a very positive and encouraging move on the part of the BCCI to start giving prize money along with the man-of-the-match awards and the player-of-the-tournament award in all domestic matches. This is in continuation of the board’s commitment to support cricket across all sections, from junior and women cricketers to senior domestic tournament winners. In increasing the liberalization of rewards and recognition for excellent performance, BCCI is trying to create a much more competitive and inspiring environment for Indian cricketers. This will surely prove to be a long-term asset in terms of cricket development and cricket promotion in India.
