Lamar Jackson Calls Chiefs Clash More Than A Revenge Game

The NFL season is about to start, and everybody's eyes will be on the Baltimore Ravens when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs. This game should be a great one, mainly because the Ravens want to try and avenge their AFC Championship loss of last year. Their star quarterback, Lamar Jackson, has downplayed the tag of this being a "revenge" game.

Lamar Jackson has explained that he isn't looking at this matchup as solely a revenge game. "Any game I play feels like it's revenge." Jackson emphasized, "I just want to win, no matter if we've beaten them or lost to them in previous years." How will this game unfold?

Lamar Jackson: A Tough Record Against The Chiefs

Jackson's career record against the Chiefs has not been pretty. He is 1-4 against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City team. The Ravens' last outing against the Chiefs was last year's AFC Championship Game. Even with Jackson repeatedly driving the Ravens deep into opposition territory, Baltimore was undone by three turnovers, including two committed by Jackson himself. It resulted in a low-scoring loss, 17-10 in Baltimore.

Jackson knows how big of a deal it is to start the season on fire. He emphasized that their goal for the time being would be to stay away from an awful record come season's end since a 5-12 record means not entering the playoffs at all. After several months of grueling work in the offseason, training camp, and preseason, Jackson is ready to see other opponents rather than his defense. This sounds like the eagerness to do something more challenging, to show his skill on a greater scale.

Setting the tone for the remainder of the year, this will be much more than a revenge game coming up against the Chiefs. Instead of dwelling on losses from last year, Jackson's attention is focused on how well his team can perform this time around. It's huge for a team trying to start the season on a high note, and having Jackson leading them.

    Aiming For Success

The goal is to improve on previous seasons for the Ravens. Jackson's take is one game at a time, no revenge shot across the bow, which is mature. It speaks to long-term results, not short-term gratification. The Ravens have been preparing well for this game, with training and strategy sessions geared toward preparing them for this big challenge. As for Jackson, his whole mindset is to approach every game with the seriousness it deserves, hence focusing on the task at hand.

While highly hyped, the game against the Chiefs is never a distraction from the greater view of Jackson and the Ravens. Success in the NFL does not just come as a result of one great game but how that team can sustain its abilities through a whole season.

Setting the tone for how Jackson will approach this season is reflected in his approach to the upcoming game against the Chiefs. So, while the revenge story may be pretty appealing, Jackson remains concerned with just winning each game for overall success. Going against the Chiefs, the Ravens not only try to start their season well but also set the stage for a successful run.
