Week 1 CFF Freshmen Running Back Standouts

Week One of the college football season is in the books and many freshmen across the country put on a show with their big performances. Whether true freshmen or redshirt freshmen, the young guys showed they either belong on your team, in your lineup, or at least on your radar.

These freshmen running backs played big parts in their team’s successes over the weekend, and hopefully they have a place on your rosters. It’s likely one or two are already rostered, as they should have been. However, there are always hidden gems to unearth.

Wayshawn Parker, Running Back, Washington State Cougars

The first Washington State player to have a receiving and rushing touchdown in his college debut since 2018, Wayshawn Parker had a great introduction to college football. Parker finished with eight carries for 96 yards and a touchdown on the ground, and also added one reception for 52 yards and a touchdown. He should continue his week one success into week two, as the Cougars take on Texas Tech’s porous defense at home.

Sire Gaines, Running Back, Boise State Broncos

Clearly overshadowed by Ashton Jeanty’s 267 yard, six touchdown performance, Sire Gaines had a very solid 12 carry, 110 yard outing himself. The former three star recruit is the clear number two and handcuff for Jeanty, who is the RB1 in CFF. That alone is reason to roster the freshman. Saturday against Oregon probably won’t be fruitful for him, but a fairly week schedule for Boise State moving forward should benefit him.

Nate Frazier, Running Back, Georgia Bulldogs

Trevor Etienne didn’t play on Saturday due to a one game suspension for an offseason DUI, so Nate Frazier stepped in with 11 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown against number 14 Clemson. Frazier, who many considered the RB1 of the class of 2024, should see plenty of opportunities in Georgia’s running back by committee style of offense. The explosive freshman was said to be highly impressive during fall camp and will only get better.

Ahmad Hardy, Running Back, Louisiana Monroe Warhawks

Not listed on the ULM two deep going into the game, Ahmad Hardy became the guy at running back throughout the game for the Warhawks. Hardy finished with 19 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown in the victory against Jackson State. It should be noted the two listed starters for Monroe did not receive any touches on Saturday, so Hardy’s future usage should be monitored.
