The MLB season of 2024 is over, and for the most part, Baseball enthusiasts don’t get more bitter, as some of our favorite veterans may hang up their gloves and cleats once and for all. It’s always hard to think that we must say goodbye to those who have been big in the game. With a broad period, these players have become consistent game features and are likely to be missed whenever they decide to retire. Let’s take a closer look into three veterans who might call it after this season.

3 MLB Veterans Who Could Retire After 2024

    1. Kevin Kiermaier

I am the luckiest man on the planet to have been a part of ⁦@RaysBaseball⁩ for 12 years. They gave me an opportunity and I ran with it. Impossible to express how much I love everything here in tampa/st pete. I was damn proud to wear that jersey every single day. pic.twitter.com/cM7m5CNlDl

The 34-year-old has already announced that he’ll be retiring after this season. Arguably one of the best defenders in the major leagues, Kevin Kiermaier has branded himself into the game with his excellent work in the glove and the game-changing plays. He has been an exceptional center fielder over the years for both the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

His defense has been one of the major strengths of any team he has played for. In case the Dodgers progress to a deep playoff run, his presence in the outfield will be vividly missed. His exit will certainly bring an end to a distinguished career as one of baseball’s best defenders.

    2. Andrew McCutchen

Andrew McCutchen is another veteran, 37 years old, who also could be near the end of his career. McCutchen has had a Hall of Fame-type career and has won the National League MVP Award. He is most known for his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he became a fan favorite. The story of McCutchen’s return to the Pirates in recent years has been a heartwarming one.

He presently sits tied for second on the Pirate’s all-time home run list, just behind Roberto Clemente. Despite being older, McCutchen got the job done, proving he still has so much talent left in his tank. This leadership and skill have made him such a loved player, and whatever he feels after this whether he does or does not play another season—his presence within the game will never be disrespected.

    3. Rich Hill

Rich Hill is that extremely rare player to have denied the odd ones with his persistence in the game of baseball. He is 44 years old. His career has been one of great note, spanning more than 20 years with a few stops along the way that include the Boston Red Sox.

He’s well-known for his crafty style and impressive strikeout total, making him a valuable asset over the years. If this is indeed his final season, it will close out a career full of notable achievements. Through the years, Hill’s ability to change and adapt his style of pitching has been a testimony to his dedication and skill. For sure, fans will miss him on the mound.

    Final Thoughts

As the 2024 season winds down, these veterans may well be getting ready to say goodbye. It is never easy to see such cherished players possibly retire, but their legacies will always live on to inspire new generations. In the twilight of this season, these veterans bring back nostalgic memories of the game of baseball. Their likely retirements mean the end of important eras, and it is their legacies that continue to inspire and entertain fans long after they leave the playing field.

With the end of the 2024 season, several experienced veterans face uncertain futures. A few of them, with their hall-of-fame careers and a load of accomplishments under their belts, may say goodbye. Where one door closes, another opens, and so they present new opportunities to fresh faces and better settings. Though their possible exits would mean the end of an era in their respective teams, this will also usher in a new chapter in the case of both players and the league.
