That’s where companions come in. Certain mobs (animals and monsters) are tameable in the game ranging from the typical housecat to a skeletal steed. This guide will be an overview of every possible tame in Minecraft.

Mobs Tamed By Feeding

The oldest and most standard way of taming an animal is by feeding it their favorite treat. Wolves are a neutral mob in Minecraft that is tamed by feeding them bones. Once tamed, you can equip your new best friend with the new Armadillo Armor to protect it against attackers. Another tameable animal in Minecraft is the Cat. These furry felines are found lounging in villages and can be tamed by slowly approaching them and feeding them Raw Cod or Raw Salmon. The last creature tamed by feeding is the Parrot. These birds are found in the Jungle biome and can be tamed using any variant of seeds. Parrots can sit on your shoulders once tamed.

Mobs Tamed By Mounting

Certain animals, specifically equines, are tamed by repeatedly mounting their back. Horses, Donkeys, Mules, and Llamas are all tamed using this method. All of these mobs- excluding the Llama- can be fed their favorite food before mounting to expedite the process. These foods consist of Wheat, Sugar, Apples, Golden Apples, and Golden Carrots. Once the animal stops bucking you off and love hearts appear, you have tamed it. Horses, Donkeys, and Mules all require saddles to control and have the option to equip armor. Donkeys and Mules can also carry chests. Llamas can be fitted with a colored carpet and chest. They can be caravanned using a lead, but cannot be directly controlled.

Mobs Tamed By Trust

Some mobs in Minecraft aren’t fully tameable, but you can still gain their trust. Adult Foxes spawned into the world naturally will never fully trust the player and will always flee. However, breeding two Foxes with Sweet Berries or Glow Berries will yield a trusting baby Fox. Once grown up, this “tamed” fox will defend the player against certain hostile monsters. An Axolotl trusts you once you feed it a bucket of tropical fish, and it will help you fight underwater monsters like Guardians and Drowned. An Ocelot’s trust is gained through Raw Cod or Raw Salmon, but these cats don’t provide any benefits. The Allay will trust and follow the player once given any item.

Minecraft’s World Is Only Getting Better

The player will be granted the ‘Best Friends Forever’ advancement upon taming a creature in Java Edition. On Bedrock Edition, five different achievements are acquired through taming mobs. These consist of ‘Leader of the Pack’ by taming five wolves, ‘Saddle Up’ by taming a horse, ‘Lion Hunter’ from gaining an Ocelot’s trust, ‘Plethora of Cats’ by taming 20 cats, and finally, ‘The Healing Power of Friendship!’ by teaming up with an Axolotl and winning a fight. Minecraft’s world is full of enrichment and creativity, so it is no wonder the game is as popular as it is.
