Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Vows and Vengeance Adds Fun New Narrative

    User-posted content

The lead-up to BioWare’s newest addition to the Dragon Age franchise, The Veilguard, has been ramping up in the last month; including gameplay trailers, Q&As, blog posts, combat highlights, and more. To add to this onslaught of exciting new developments and pre-release promotional information, the team has once again gone above and beyond to give fans what they want: as many tidbits about the narrative as possible, without spoiling. Part of this hand-fed approach has now come in the form of a new narrative podcast called “Vows and Vengeance.”

    The Premise

Nadia Carcosa, a semi-retired thief, takes on a dangerous mission to break into the Arcanist Hall in Minrathous. The target: an ancient artifact known as the “Eye of Kethisca” stored in the archives. Soon after Nadia agrees to take the job, her lover and partner, Magister Elio Andante, is approached by the private investigator, Neve Gallus. She warns Elio about Nadia’s plan to steal the artifact and charges him with stopping her plans. In the archives, within the hall, Elio confronts Nadia and tries to stop her theft -only to be suddenly ambushed by Templars before he can convince her to stand down. A battle ensues and, in the commotion to escape, Nadia swipes the Eye anyway.

Now labeled traitors to the Imperium, and on the run, Nadia is determined to finish the job. Traveling to the Silent Plains, in Southern Tevinter, the pair meet up with the client that hired her. That man is none other than the Dread Wolf, himself, Solas. In the confrontation, Solas tells them the Eye’s significance, and that it is -in fact- tied to an ancient Dreamer’s bloodline -Elio’s bloodline. This knowledge convinces Elio to help Solas repair the threadbare condition of the Veil looming over the Silent Plains. However, the ritual goes awry, and in the ensuing chaos of its failure, Elio becomes trapped in the Fade.

    The Mission

Afraid of her lover’s fate, and now abandoned by Solas without explanation, Nadia goes on the hunt to find the Dread Wolf, answers to what has become of Elio, and to save him. Along the way, she meets a historian and troubled writer named Drayden. With his help, the two set out to do what needs to be done -with the help of familiar friends, found along the way. Hoping beyond hope, that they will be able to succeed where it matters most.

    Cameos and Characters

As confirmed by the developers at BioWare, the “Vows and Vengeance” narrative will be starring a laundry list of primary and secondary characters. Both familiar and not, to the fanbase. All with rich character arcs and narratives, that will seamlessly integrate with the story’s plot and prime the Dragon Age audience for the Veilguard’s forthcoming narrative.

Devs have also confirmed that all the companions from Dragon Age: The Veilguard will make significant cameos throughout the podcast’s eight-episode run. Inquisition heroes Lace Harding (voiced by: Ali Hillis) and Varric Tethras (voiced by Brian Bloom,) will each have their cameos, while characters; like Emmrich, Davrin, Belara, and more: will each have a featured appearance as well.

    Details

Written by Will Melton and Jeremy Novick, and directed by Matt Sav, Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance was created in conjunction with Creative and Narrative director Todd Stallkamp and leaders for BioWare’s Narrative and Development Support team, Mary De Marle and John Epler. The podcast also features music by world-renowned composers, Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Vows and Vengeance can be found on the game’s official YouTube channel -as well as on podcast platforms, such as Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Podcast- and is rated M for Mature. Episodes will be released weekly, every Thursday, until the finale on October 17th -exactly two weeks before the game’s release date of October 31, 2024.

Players can pre-order Dragon Age: The Veilguard on Steam, the EA app, or at Epic Games, and will be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox X/S.
