Gasoline prices in North Carolina have seen little fluctuation over the past week, with a slight decrease in some areas. The key factor contributing to the stability in gas prices is the decline in oil prices, driven by concerns over a potential U.S. recession.

However, with new economic data indicating a recovery in American retail spending, these fears might begin to ease.

AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross cautioned that it's still early in the hur*icane season, so it's premature to conclude that gas prices have entered their typical autumn decline.

As of August 18, gas prices in North Carolina are as follows:

    • Current gas price: $3.199
    • Week Ago Avg: $3.234
