Despite inflation easing from its 2022 highs, the cost of living remains a concern for many Americans as they navigate higher expenses for essentials like housing, food, and fuel. With disposable income stretched thin, finding affordable places to live is more important than ever.

In the first two months of 2024, Americans were able to save about 3.9% of their disposable income, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, well below historic levels.

In North Carolina, certain counties offer a lower cost of living, providing some relief from the financial pressures many are experiencing. I compiled a list of the counties with the lowest cost of living in the state, using rankings from Niche.
