LURAY, Va. – Shenandoah National Park officials have lifted a fishing ban that’s been in place since summer. Extremely dry conditions and low stream flows prompted the park to implement the ban on August 31. However, in a December 6 media release, the officials announced that fishing may now resume, effective immediately.

Stanley Volunteer Fire Department releases call stats for August 2023
STANLEY, Va. – The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 58 calls for the month of August reported Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit, via emailed release. Chief Pettit reported that there were 19 emergency calls, 12 medical calls and 27 non-emergency calls. Total calls for the year so far are 416.

Page County High School Graduate Dies In West Virginia Bike Accident
CORE, W.Va. — On November 9, a former Stanley man died after he was thrown from his dirt bike and struck by a vehicle. According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), William Ray Burker, 29, of Morgantown, was traveling east on single-lane Henderson Hollow Road when he lost control on the gravel road and fell into the roadway. Authorities say a westbound pickup truck failed to see him in enough time to avoid striking him. Burker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Travis Matthew Hogan of Hopewell was arrested for Felony Abduction, Unlawfully Wounding during the Commission of a Felony, Child Endangerment, Misdemeanor Destruction of Property and Domestic Assault and Battery.
