Page County Public Schools increase safety measures for students and staff
LURAY, Va. – At the August 10 Page County School Board meeting, new safety improvements were announced. These improvements, to be implemented at the start of the 2023-2024 school year, will increase communication, training and security measures during regular instruction days and in the event of emergencies or crisis incidents.

On August 8, deputies with the Page County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and George Mason University Police, executed a search warrant on Lucas Hollow Road in Stanley, which resulted in the arrest of Gary Wayne Cubbage, Jr., of Stanley.

Free programs for all ages at the Shenandoah National Park Night Sky Festival through August 13
LURAY, Va.– Shenandoah National Park, in Virginia, is celebrating its annual Night Sky Festival, through August 13, 2023. Speakers at the event will encourage visitors to gain appreciation for dark skies through a variety of special programs and activities. Park ranger-led programs will focus on wild animals that rely on dark skies, each planet’s role in the solar system, and stories told by the constellations. Participants are invited to enjoy targazing, constellation tours, Junior Ranger activities, and more.
Virginia hospice gives grieving youth a special Beyoncé experience
WINCHESTER, Va. – Blue Ridge Hospice recently invited 10 young adults to private skybox seating for Beyoncé's RENAISSANCE World Tour concert in Landover, Maryland. The invitations were extended to grieving youth, allowing them to enjoy an evening of hope, celebration and healing. The August 6 FedEx Field event included catered refreshments and food, and was made possible by a partnership with the Washington Commanders.
Virginia State Police investigating fatal weekend crash
CULPEPER COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police have released details about a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday evening, just north of Route 299 (Madison Rd). The crash left one person dead and several others seriously injured.

PAGE COUNTY, Va. – Timothy Thomas Comer had eluded authorities for more than two weeks. After a man was found shot dead in a Jollett Road residence in late June, police began searching for Comer. A suspicious Jollett Road fire on July 9 also indicated his involvement.
New laws in Virginia as of July, 2023
A quick look at a few of the Virginia state laws thattook effect July 1. New law categories include curfews, swatting, gun safety, blue headlights, black history, and housing. Age Verification for adult websites - This law requires adult websites to implement an age verification system to access content. This law paves the way for civil lawsuits against websites “that knowingly or intentionally publishes or distributes on the Internet material harmful to minors” and don’t establish a way for age verification.

STANLEY, Va. – A two-vehicle July 8 crash resulted in the death of one person and the injury of four others. The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. Hwy Bsn 340 and Route 632 (Alans Rd), approximately 1.5 miles north of Valley Exxon.

PAGE COUNTY, Va. – Fugitive Timothy Thomas Comer had eluded authorities for more than two weeks. After a man was found shot dead in a Jollett Road residence on June 29, police searched for Comer first as a person of interest, and then as a wanted man. A suspicious Jollett Road fire on July 9 had also indicated his involvement.
Virginia manhunt ends; suspect in custody
PAGE COUNTY, Va. – Just after 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) announced that Timothy Thomas Comer had been captured, and was finally in police custody. The PCSO Facebook post officially announced the end of what had been an exhausting two-week search for the fugitive.

STAFFORD, Va. – Virginia State Police continue to investigate a three-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of two individuals. The crash occurred Wednesday, July 5 at 4:42 a.m. on Interstate 95 at the 136-mile marker, in Stafford.

LURAY, Va. – The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) recently unveiled new Forever stamps, including one that features a popular Virginia hiking spot. The Waterfall Forever stamps feature 12 United States waterfalls. One stamp pays tribute to a “fan favorite” of Shenandoah National Park visitors – Dark Hollow Falls.
