STAFFORD, Va. – A golfer who had one too many on the green found himself behind bars on Saturday.

According to a media statement from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the incident happened August 10, 2024.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. a SCSO deputies were called to the area of Courthouse Road and Shelton Shop Road for an auto accident. Callers advised a truck was off the roadway and the male driver seemed intoxicated.

When a deputy arrived, he located a Dodge Ram partly in the eastbound lanes facing west.

One witness advised he observed the Ram speeding before swerving off the road and destroying part of a fence. The witness then watched the truck swerve back onto the roadway before merging into oncoming traffic.

The deputy noted that the driver, Richard Landon Saylor, had signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming alcohol while playing a few rounds at a local golf course.

It was later discovered that Saylor, 41, had also struck and left an unoccupied vehicle in the golf course parking lot (with damage estimated $250+).

Saylor was charged with driving under the influence and hit and run. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.

According to online court records, Saylor is due to appear in Stafford County General District Court on August 16.
