While states like Florida and California are praised for their ideal beach conditions, if you're craving something a bit different, Georgia is home to a one-of-a-kind beach that should definitely be on your bucket list.

Welcome to Cumberland Island, located along the southeastern tip of the state.

Here you'll find a population of stunning wild horses that roam the beach freely, much like the infamous Assateague Island in Maryland.

Cumberland Island is known as the largest and southernmost barrier island in the state and it was once a working plantation before it became a winter retreat for the Carnegie family.

It finally became a national park in 1972. Aside from the wild horses, the island is home to undeveloped beaches, marshes, and forests throughout the 36,000-acre expanse of land. According to visitors, it's also one of the best places in the state to search for seashells.
