The Jefferson Carriage House: Small Buffet with Big Flavor
In this episode, Tommy and I visit the Jefferson Carriage House in Jefferson, Georgia to try out this country style cooking buffet. While not on the scale of buffets like Golden Corral, the Jefferson Carriage House offers plenty in the form of traditional American Country Cooking. From southern fried chicken to Low Country Boil or salads and spaghetti, there's truly something for everyone.
1790's Church Was Formed By Scots and Irish Revolutionists
In this episode, Tommy and I visit Thyatira Presbyterian Church, also known now as Tyrus Baptist Church in Jackson County, Ga. This church has quite a bit of confusing history, yet interesting history! Its cemetery didn't disappoint either. If you love history and you enjoy historical churches, then this one is definitely worth checking out!
This Secluded Cemetery Is The Final Resting Place of Iconic Native American
If you've lived in or visited Forsyth County Georgia for any length of time, you've probably run across the name of Young Deer, in the form of a boat park, or the name Tidwell. Young Deer was born in the 1820's and was a native and full blooded member of the Cherokee Nation, whose headquarters were located in the Forsyth area before it was relocated later. Young Deer left Forsyth County around the same time that the Cherokee moved their hub, and relocated to Allatoona Town with his young wife. There he settled, becoming apart of the pioneer community, leaving a legacy that lasts even today. His remains are buried at the secluded Bethany Baptist Church on Red Top Mountain, where his grave is still tended today.
Can This Newest Chicken Chain Compete With The Front-Runners?
In this episode, Tommy and I tried out a newer chicken chain that opened in Gainesville. Huey Magoo's offers pretty much the same menu as its competitors Guthrie's and Zaxby's. But how does it rate and what, if anything sets it apart from the others?
Looking for the Oldest Grave in this Dawson County Cemetery
In this episode, Tommy and I visit Dawson County, Georgia and Bethel Baptist Church, where we search out the grave of a child who was part of a wagon train passing through Northeast Georgia during the settler days.
This Gainesville Restaurant Location Delivers More Value For Your Dollar
In this episode, Tommy and I take a break from Christmas shopping to have lunch at one of our favorite places, the Golden Corral. Offering a huge variety of foods with something for everyone, the Gainesville location delivers consistently on food quality, cleanliness, and service. It's the perfect stop to refuel, especially during holiday shopping.
Gainesville Restaurant is a Hidden Gem in Plain Sight
In this episode, Tommy and I visit El Carreton, a Mexican Street Food restaurant that lives on the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Pearl Nix Parkway in Gainesville, GA. This place has apparently been a Gainesville institution since 1994, but recently relocated to the old Sonic/Chick-fil-A building. It's seriously good eats even if it appears to be empty, which we attribute to the world's smallest "open" sign.
Is Hello HiLO Worth the Hype?
In this episode, Tommy and I visit a newly opened restaurant in Gainesville, Ga. This place hasn't been opened long, but it already put a mark on our hearts for a place we'd go back to. Hello Hilo is located on Limestone Parkway in Gainesville, Ga., and offers a wide variety of authentic Hawaiian food for all tastes.
Exploring Washington's Food Scene and its Annual Mule Day Festival
In this episode, Tommy and I spend back to back weekends in our favorite town of Washington, celebrating both his birthday and our daughter's. During those two weeks, we visit the Mule Day Festival held annually at the Calloway Plantation; we check out the first jail in Washington, eat some amazing pizza from Al's Italian Bistro, pub faire from Maddy's Public House, as well as the Washington Tavern and some traditional festival food eats at Mule Days. For sure, if you're looking for food, entertainment, and history, no town has more to offer than Washington.
Cemetery in Affluent Marietta Area Needs a Cleanup
We spent the day visiting two cemeteries that Tommy has wanted to check out for awhile and they couldn't have been more different. Both are located in the affluent areas of Marietta Georgia, but one certainly gets more attention than the other. No ghosts, no EVP's... Spooky Season is over and I think these ghosts left long ago when the urban development got louder than their graveyard banter!
Halloween House is Spooktacular!
In this episode, Tommy and I visit a local house that's well known for its amazing Halloween decorations and light displays as our final installment in our Spooky Season series. This house is located in Central Gainesville and is easy to find by following the line of traffic of Hwy. 53 East and draws people from all over North Georgia and surrounding counties.
Spooky Season Continues: EVP Caught at Abandoned Historic Church
In this episode, Tommy and I check out a cemetery as well as a church with its own cemetery that we've had our eyes on for awhile. We decided to keep with the theme of last week's video and with Spooky Season in general and see if we could capture EVP's or hits on the Ghost Hunting app at either place. We got enough to satisfy us that the church definitely has some activity. Rock Methodist Church is a historical part of Wilkes County, Georgia. Located on the outskirts of the town of Rayle, it was constructed in the late 1700's. The church has a much debated history and while it is falling into disrepair, there are efforts to at least maintain it by a few locals.
Hotel Review: The Fitzpatrick Hotel and its Resident Ghosts
The Fitzpatrick Hotel recently gained a lot of attention after it was featured on the popular show Ghost Brothers, but before that paranormal team investigated it, Tommy and I have had plans to stay there. It's what he wanted to do for his birthday this month but we were given an added bonus when Inner Light Paranormal asked us to join them on two investigations in the historical town of Washington, Georgia. Since it's Halloween Month, what better way to celebrate than to visit and hopefully communicate with some of the long dead residents of this tiny community. We weren't disappointed and owe a special thanks to the business owners who allowed us entry into their buildings and into the bowels of the city itself. The hotel is a glorious old building that offers so much in the way of amenities and attraction on its own, that is hard to beat when you add the affordability and haunted location.
Visiting Augusta and a Hidden Gem Museum
In this episode we take a short day trip to Augusta, Ga., to visit the Morris Museum of Art. Seemingly small at first this museum packs a huge amount of historical and contemporary art into a winding maze of rooms to excite and amaze the senses! Afterwards, we had lunch at the Metro Diner, that offered just about anything you could crave!
Pit Boss Cooking Review • Poor Man's Brisket & MORE
In this episode Tommy and I check in at the 90 day mark to give a full review of the Pit Boss 850 Series 8 in 1 Electric Smoker and Grill. We've cooked some seriously amazing food on this thing but is it really worth the money?
What Makes North Georgia Grave Markers So Unique? BEST Local Tamales?
In this episode, Tommy and I are back exploring the North Georgia Mountain Countryside looking for unique grave markers and picturesque country churches. What we found, did NOT disappoint. Afterwards, we ate lunch at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in Dawsonville, Ga., and had probably some of the best tamales in a very long time.
Pickett's Mill: The Battle That Gave Sherman Pause • Pop's Dawg House
In this episode, Tommy and I travel to New Hope, Georgia where we walk 200 year old roads, following the footsteps of General Sherman and his Confederate nemesis, General Johnston as the two armies collide in what was one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War. Known as one of the only pristinely preserved battlefields in the country, this historic site offers much in the way of hiking trails, historic ruins, and even an 1850's authentic cabin. Afterwards, we visited Pop's Dawg House in Dallas, Georgia to have some really good and affordable classic American food.
Visiting Zoo Atlanta for the first time and local restaurant favorite, Louisiana Bistreaux
In this episode, Tommy gets to experience his first ever trip to Zoo Atlanta with our grandchildren. The zoo offers so many fun and unique exhibits, which include the only Giant Panda exhibit in the US other than Washington, D.C. Afterwards, we headed to Buckhead to enjoy lunch at a local institution, Louisiana Bistreaux, which might be one of the best restaurants in the area.
Phillips Cemetery and a Story that Broke Me... Also Whataburger, why did you disappoint me?
In this episode, we stayed local and visited a cemetery that Tommy passes by all the time but has always wanted to stop. Parker Jackson was just 16 years old when his life was cut tragically short. Learning about him and the impact those 16 years made on this tiny community got me all in feels. After that, we went to my favorite Whataburger, but ended up let down. I'd go back for that spicy chicken sandwich though.
