Joplin woman admits to role in mail theft case
KSNF/KODE — A Joplin woman admits her role in a fraud case that involved hundreds of victims. This week, Emily Sturgis, 30, admitted that she and another man, Aaron Blake, 26, stole mail out of residential mailboxes that included credit cards, debit cards, checks, cash, jewelry, and other documents containing personal identifying information.
KBI Arrests Man Involved in Officer-Involved Shooting in Ottawa County
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation arrests a man who fired multiple shots in a Minneapolis, KS, park. On Wednesday, July 24, 2024 around 11:30am Wichita Police arrested 46-year-old Artemas Thor Peck of Minneapolis as he was released from Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Peck was taken into custody on an Ottawa County warrant for attempted capital murder and attempted second-degree murder stemming from a June 22nd incident near the Minneapolis swimming pool. Peck is accused of firing a gun at officers during the incident in which he was shot by Kansas highway Patrol Troopers.
Joplin couple pleads guilty to bank fraud conspiracy
(KOAM) - Emily Anna-Lee Sturgis, 31, and Aaron M. Blake, 28, both of Joplin, Mo., have pleaded guilty to charges related to a scheme involving bank and wire fraud, as well as identity theft. The pleas were entered before U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool.
Nationwide “End of Watch: Ride to Remember” tour honors fallen Joplin officers
JOPLIN, Mo. — Two Joplin police officers are part of a nationwide tour of honor, one that will make a stop in Joplin next week. Corporal Ben Cooper and Officer Jake Reed are among a large number of officers who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty since 2022. The traveling memorial is the “Beyond the Call of Duty” “End of Watch: Ride to Remember,” which is in the midst of a 64-day journey across the country. The stops are at police departments and sheriff’s offices whose men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice over the past 2 years.
