Health Department to offer private well testing
Health department recommends annual water tests for quality on private well systems used for drinking water. During the month of September Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) is partnering with University of Nebraska Lincoln researcher Shannon Bartlet-Hunt as part of a community water project to provide free testing to private well owners in southwest Nebraska. The tests will look at nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate levels.

Bellevue veteran attends 50th anniversary of Navy submarine USS Parche
BREMERTON, Wash. (WOWT) - A Bellevue veteran recently attended a celebration in Washington state to mark the 50th anniversary of a U.S. Navy submarine’s commission. The USS Parche (SSN 683) is said to be the most decorated ship in U.S. Naval history, earning nine Presidential Unit Citations. It was commissioned in August 1974 and completed 19 deployments over 30 years before it was decommissioned in 2004.
Lincoln officials urge caution during heat advisory
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Lincoln and Lancaster County effective from 1 p.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday. According to the NWS, heat index values up to 109 are expected. The NWS HeatRisk for Lincoln will be in Major or red, which means this level of heat affects anyone without cooling or adequate hydration.
