Donations Being Accepted for New Veterans Memorial
American Legion Post 130 is planning to build a veterans memorial on the corner of Highway 40 and 92. The large memorial will consist of at least four 6’ x 3’ inscribed monuments listing the names of at least 300 local veterans. The names of Sons of American Legion and Auxiliary Unit 130 members will be listed on the back of each monument. An inscribed, taller monument will be located in the center, with flags surrounding the circle.

Capron Captures Junior Gold Title
Incoming Husker freshman bowler Karina Capron took home the U18 title at the 2024 Junior Gold Championships in Allen Park, Mich., Saturday evening. Capron, the U12 2017 Junior Gold Champion, qualified for match play in sixth after five qualifying rounds. In matches of two games total pinfall, Capron defeated Maggie Smith 427-295, Amanda Lang 394-391 and Melia Mitskavich 395-373 before facing Kaitlyn Stull in a match to decide the placements for the tv show. Capron fell to Stull 441-414 and earned the second-place spot in the finals.

KJCCC Football Media Day To Be Held July 26 At Riverfront Stadium
COLBY, Kan. (KJCCC.org) – The annual Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference football media day is set for Friday, July 26th, at Riverfront Stadium in downtown Wichita. Head coaches from all seven KJCCC football-playing institutions will be present at the event which will get underway at 11:30 AM with a meet and greet portion followed by lunch at 12 PM. The press conference will begin at 12:30 PM with KJCCC Commissioner Mike Saddler briefing attendees on matters concerning the conference and the upcoming season. Each head coach will be given the chance to speak about their team for the upcoming year followed by an opportunity for all media in attendance to ask any questions. Commission approves ‘racino’ license transfer to Ogallala in western Nebraska
LINCOLN — The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission has unanimously approved transferring a racing license from a racetrack in Hastings to a new facility in Ogallala. Commissioners voted 7-0 Friday to allow the license transfer for Hastings Exposition and Racing Inc. The company plans to partner with Elite Casino Resorts, which owns the resort in Grand Island, and plans to establish a multi-track quarter horse racing circuit in western Nebraska.
McCook Aquatic Park is now open
The McCook Aquatic Park held their grand opening Wednesday. The park is a great addition to the community that has gone without an outdoor pool for the last two summers. The aquatic center was a decade-long effort with the pool committee beginning the process in 2015.
