Police were called after a small baggie of pills were discovered Monday outside McGee Elementary School .

A parent turned in “one baggie containing four small pills” that she found after a community event at the school, according to a statement from Pasco School District.

The pills were secured by the school nurse and police were notified.

Police plan to destroy the pills and aren’t planning to send them out for analysis, Pasco Lt. Tom Groom told the Tri-City Herald.

The district was made aware of the incident Tuesday afternoon and is asking any parents or children who may have information to contact police.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority,” the school district wrote. “We are aware that some social media posts contain incorrect information about this incident. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your school directly.”

Groom said the school and the parent were correct to involve police in collecting the pills.

“We wold encourage anyone who finds suspicious looking pills to call non-emergency dispatch so we can assist,” he said.
