Troy Mayor Jason A. Reeves signed a proclamation Monday declaring the week of Monday, May 6, as National Correctional Officers Week.

The mayor expressed appreciation to all the officers who, every day, go above and beyond to keep Troy and Pike County safe.

“Thank you for what you do and you all do it so well, “Reeves said. “And, we are so grateful for what you do for all of us.”

The City of Troy is celebrating the first full week of May as National Corrections Officers Week.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 518, creating National Correctional Officers Week.

Each year, the first full week in May is Correctional Officers and Employees Week, commemorating the contributions of correctional officers and personnel who work in jails, prisons and community corrections across the country.
