October is still a few months away but it’s never too early to get an early start on fun and learning.

So, the Southeastern Mvskoke Nation is not waiting to extend an invitation to its Southeastern Mvskoke Nation Creek Friends Festival on October 12 from 9 until 5 p.m. at its festival grounds on 242 County Road 2254, Troy.

Michelle Gilmore, Tribal Chief, said a full day of activities has been planned.

The festival is an opportunity to learn more about the Southeastern Mvskoke Nation and to participate in its traditional dances and games.

“Everyone is encouraged to try new activities, ax throwing, sling shots, long bows and stomp dancing,” Gilmore said. “There will be music –guitar, wood flutes and drums, stick ball, and digging for arrowheads.”

In addition to the usual festival food, the festival menu will include Fry Bead, Indian Tacos, Roasted Corn and more,

The Southeastern Mvskoke Nation Creek Friend’s Festival will feature a day of fun for all ages and a time for storytelling and learning more about the Southeastern Mvskoke Creek Indians and how they helped shaped the place we call come, Gilmore said.

Admission is $5 with children under 12 free.
