Troy man admits to role in false benefits scheme
A Troy man pleaded guilty last week in a scheme to fraudulently obtain COVID-19 benefits. Todd Ward, 45, admitted in U.S. District Court that that he provided Carl J. DiVeglia III with the personal identifying information of another person to file a false claim with the state Department of Labor. This resulted in the payment of $152,086 in unemployment benefits, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Traffic stop leads to illegal gun possession arrest in Albany
On Monday, patrols from the Albany County Sheriff's Office pulled a car over near Central Avenue and Quail Street after witnessing a traffic observation. Deputies say an investigation led to the finding of a loaded Hi-Point 9mm semi-automatic firearm that he didn't have the right to possess. Deputies also say Mott was driving while impaired by drugs.

The NTSB is out with its preliminary report on the deadly June 17 plane crash in Colonie. There were no mechanical issues, they said, and there’s still no definitive cause.
