PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — An assault investigation culminated in a river chase for the suspect involving everything from boats to drones, ultimately resulting in an arrest in Tualatin.

On early Thursday morning, railroad tracks and the Tualatin River were blocked off while police worked to contain an assault suspect, authorities said.

According to the Tualatin Police Department, they eventually arrested 33-year-old Troy Dwayne Tedtaotao, who is accused of assaulting a woman.

At 6:05 a.m., Tualatin police responded to reports of a man assaulting a woman on the rail tracks near 19605 SW Boones Ferry Rd. When police arrived, they saw Tedtaotao “running from the scene.”

“Officers chased after Mr. Tedtaotao as he led them towards the Tualatin River, near Tualatin Community Park,” Tualatin police said in a release. “Mr. Tedtaotao proceeded to jump down an embankment and enter the river.”

Multiple agencies — including the sheriff’s offices for Washington and Clackamas counties, Tigard police and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue — then got involved in the pursuit, using K-9s, drones and boats to track the suspect down.

Tedtaotao was “safely taken into custody” and charged with second-degree domestic assault. He’s being lodged at the Washington County Jail.

Police said they don’t believe there is any threat to the public.
