TUCUMCARI, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) – The New Mexico State Police released information on a Thursday morning shooting in Tucumcari in which one man was arrested after he allegedly fired at a passing car before barricading himself inside a home with a woman and two children.

Officials said that the Tucumcari Police Department requested the NMSP’s help responding to a shooting incident early Thursday morning at a home in the 1000 block of South Jackson Street.

27-year-old Frankie Martinez allegedly fired a gun at a grey SUV carrying two adults and three children that was traveling north on Jackson Street. The NMSP noted that the SUV managed to leave the scene, with one passenger sustaining “superficial” wounds from broken glass.

Martinez allegedly then barricaded himself inside the home with his girlfriend and two children. The NMSP took over the investigation, according to officials, and activated the NMSP Tactical Team after forming a perimeter around the home and securing search and arrest warrants for Martinez.

Martinez’s girlfriend left the home safely with the two children, according to NMSP, and Martinez left the home and was arrested “without further incident.”

During its search of the home, NMSP said that officers allegedly found two handguns, a shotgun, ammunition, 16 spent 9mm casings and around five grams of reported methamphetamine.

Officials said that Martinez was booked into the Quay County Detention Center on multiple charges, including five counts of “aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,” one count of “shooting at or from a moving vehicle,” and one count of “possession of methamphetamine.”
