Puget Sound Fire responded to a railroad trestle fire Thursday afternoon, May 16, 2024 in the 16700 block of the West Valley Highway in Tukwila.

Upon arrival, the bridge was engulfed in flames on the west side.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in approximately 30 minutes.

A transient male emerged from underneath the bridge and was transported to the hospital due to smoke exposure.

Police said that the fire may have originated from the camp under the trestle on the west side. However, Puget Sound Fire investigators will determine the cause of the fire.

The bridge appears to be useable, but its integrity is being evaluated.

Union Pacific officials were on the scene.
